Gordon ran out comfortable winners of this season’s Wright Cup Final with a victory on Saturday at Lauder.
A strong second half display from the experienced Berwickshire outfit saw off the young Jed side.
Playing into the strong breeze in the first half, Gordon thought they should have had a penalty inside 10 minutes when Livingstone burst into the box and went down under a challenge from Jed centre half Melrose.
Referee Alan Rome had a good view of it but waved play on much to the frustration of the Gordon players.
The trio of Livingstone, Gillie and Brown down the Gordon left were causing problems for the Jed defence, and it was these three players that combined to set up Tait to score the opening goal midway through the half.
A throw in on the left found Gillie in space and his through ball to Livingstone was cut back to Tait and he had time to place past Jack in the Jed goal.
Jed pushed to get back in the game but found themselves up against a well organised Gordon defence. Jed were on the front foot for a spell leading into the break and they forced a succession of corners but they were unable to put any real pressure on Anderson in the Gordon goal, a Page header straight at the big stopper was the closest Jed came. A snapshot from Sean Wood from the edge of the box near to half time was again fired straight at Anderson in Jed’s only real other chance of the half.
Jed took the game to Gordon in the early part of the second half but they were caught out on the break on 55 mins, the ball finding its way to Livingstone just over the halfway line and he went past three Jed defenders as he cut in from the left and calmly slotted past Jack. Livingstone then scored his second of the game soon after, latching on to a mistake by Hyland to round Jack before slotting into the empty net.
The Gordon side were now dominant and it wasn’t long before Livingstone notched his hat-trick. Jed were again caught on the break and the ball broke to the former East of Scotland marksman and he drove into the box and smashed the ball high into the net past the helpless Jack.
To their credit Jed never gave up and went close late on but Hunter’s effort slid past the upright.
