Eyemouth picked up their first league points of the season with a deserved victory over visitors Hawick Royal Albert at Warner Park.
With Eyemouth manager Max Scott away on holiday it was left to coach Gary Smith to hold the Eyemouth reins.
The Fishermen started with the wind at their backs and were soon into their stride.
Just three minutes in and Alan Jess was fouled inside Hawick’s box and referee Hanlon pointed straight to penalty spot. Jess got up to take spot kick but it was too close to Hawick keeper Dunsmore who got a hand to it and pushed it away
Hawick were putting together one or two decent attacks on the Eyemouth defence but debutant Jason Walker stood solid in the centre giving nothing away.
With the midfield trio Jess Wilson and Campbell starting to dictate the game for Eyemouth, it was little dynamo Jess who opened the scoring on 41 minutes, running at the heart of Hawick’s defence and slotting the ball past Dunsmore.
Virtually straight from restart it was Jess again who capitalised on a Hawick mistake, gathering the ball and shooting over the top of Hawick’s keeper, giving the fishermen a 2-0 half time lead.
Eyemouth continued to control in the second half, battling for every ball, and although their were no more goals chances created by either side, on form Eyemouth keeper Adam Mutch held all at bay on the rare occasions the visitors managed to break through
This was a very solid performance from Eyemouth to take their first three points of the season
