Eyemouth’s season got underway with a new team and the visit of Premier Division Spartans EOS to Warner Park.

Spartans applied early pressure which Eyemouth weathered and after 10 minutes began to settle into the game with solid defending from Speirs and Burns and excellent goalkeeping from Mutch who was kept on his toes with a string of saves.

Spartans opened the scoring midway through first half. After some wayward shooting one eventually found the net.

This flattened Eyemouth for a spell, who were holding their own against the Edinburgh side. A talking to at half time from coaches Max Scott and Gary Smith gave Eyemouth belief that they could take something from this game.

In the second half Eyemouth started to turn the tide. Spartans were still applying pressure but a mixture of poor finishing and good Eyemouth defending ignited some good attacking play from McCrudden and the ever busy Thomson. Full back Burrell was coming more into the game attacking down the flank and supplying the bullets with some quality crosses and Connor Lough was unlucky not to get on score sheet from one of these crosses hitting over the bar from close range.

But as they pressed forward Spartans capitalised and in 87 minutes dealt the killer blow to go 2-0 up.
