Leith Athletic 6, Duns 1

DUNS went in front after 90 seconds, but then crashed to a heavy defeat away to promotion hopefuls Leith Athletic in a match played on the artificial community pitch at Spartans’ Ainslie Park.

The Dingers looked like they hadn’t read the script when they opened the scoring. A long ball from centre-back Steven McHoul was misjudged by Leith’s Neil Lowson and found Waddell. His prompt through ball released Des Chisholm, who slotted home.

But it was all square five minutes later when a short back-pass from Gary Renton gave Lachlan Thom the chance to challenge Duns goalkeeper Scott Lumsden. The ball broke to Kyle Boggie, who walked the ball into the net.

The home side took the lead in the 20th minute when Chris Barrie played in Stephen Barrie, who rolled the ball into the bottom right hand corner.

Lewis Tracey came on in the 25th minute after an injury to Thom and it took him just five minutes to score, heading home a corner at the front post. Another goal from a corner put Leith 4-1 in front in the 52nd minute, Chris Beaton’s downward header bouncing into the top corner of the net.

Beaton prodded home his second from a rebound after a Stephen Barrie strike was parried by Lumsden. The scoring was completed with eight minutes remaining when Chris Barrie crossed for Jack Combe six yards out. He took a touch, before lifting the ball beyond Lumsden.
