A victory in the last game to be played at the New High School was no less than the home side deserved on an overcast cold afternoon.
Two first half goals from Michael Robinson, the first with the aid of an Albert defender, sealed the result on a day when manager Carl Hudson shuffled the pack after last Saturdays under par performance.
Hudson said afterwards: “I was pleased with the response of the players after the previous week.
“The win lifted us off the bottom of the table and it will put a little bit of pressure on the other teams around us.”
Duns gave a good account of themselves and both Robinson’s goals came from crosses - the first from Gary waddell and the second from Leigh Walker.
They also created a number of other chances but failed to convert from them.
In the second half injuries forced Duns into making three changes, and this enabled Hawick back into the game. They pulled a goal back, but the Dingers managed to hang on.
Duns: Mason, Weatherburn, Walker, R Burns, G Renton, Ainslie (Stewart) ,Chisholm, Tait, Robinson (McGregor), Brydon, Waddell (Lee).
