Whitehill Welfare 3-0 Coldstream
FOR the second week in a row, Coldstream lost to the same opponents by the same scoreline.
After losing at home to Whitehill in the South of Scotland Cup, the Streamers went down at Ferguson Park in the Image Printers Cup second round.
Whitehill started strongly and immediately went looking for the opening goal, the woodwork coming to Coldstream’s rescue twice to deny Jordan Hall and Steven Manson.
But the Whitehill goalkeeper was forced to make a great save diving high to his right to keep out a vicious shot after some good attacking play by the visitors.
After 20 minutes, Whitehill were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box, and Aaron Somerville stepped up to fire a low shot into the bottom corner to give the home side the lead.
The Rosewell side continued to press, and it was a darting run from Hall in the 35th minute that brought about the second goal. He played a one-two with Dayne Robertson, but was brought down in the box as he attempted to shoot.
Aaron Somerville stepped up to slot the penalty home to double Whitehill’s lead.
The second half began as the first, with the home side searching for the killer third goal.
In the 50th minute Scott McCulloch cut inside his marker and fired a 25 yard shot into the back of the net for the decisive third goal.
Streamers made a late rally. A Whitehill defender was forced into a great block as Coldstream beat the offside trap and bore down on Walker’s goal, but the defender’s speed allowed him to get back and prevent any threat.
Coldstream were awarded a penalty in the 75th minute when Walker was adjudged to have fouled the onrushing striker in the box and received a yellow card for his actions.
However the keeper redeemed himself as he dived low to his left to superbly push John Crawford’s effort round the post and to safety.
Whitehill then had claims for a fourth goal as Andrew Kidd’s shot was clearly over the line. However the officials were unsighted.
