Local marksmen were to the fore as the Borders beat the Lothians 3-2 in an East of Scotland trial.

For all the Borders goals in the game at Netherdale on Wednesday were scored by players representing local clubs with Eyemouth’s Stevie Shennan, Berwick Reserve player Kenny O’Brien and Coldstream’s John Crawford all finding the net.

Crawford hit the winning goal with just two minutes of the match remaining.

Shennan opened the scoring after only five minutes with Jamie Butler of Tynecastle equalising after 15. O’Brien put the Borders back in front at 2-1 just two minutes later and this was a lead they held until half time.

Substitute Michael Webster of Heriot Watt levelled it at 2-2 in the second half after 70 minutes, but Crawford popped up to grab the winner in an entertaining fixture after 88.

The squads for the match had been selected by former Berwick Rangers’ manager Michael Renwick, now manager of Heriot Watt.

The Borders side also included Johnny Simpson of Coldstream and Johnny Fairbairn of Berwick, whilst another Berwick player, Gregg Smith, was on the bench but played the second 45.
