Berwick Rangers Reserves slumped to defeat against a team they had beaten 5-0 away from home only three weeks earlier.

But Ormiston's winner came in stoppage time and in unlikely circumstances.

The first half was uneventful with neither side having a serious shot at goal. The second period opened with Berwick much livelier and in the 70th minute, they went in front. Dean Carse brought his personal tally to five goals in the last three games, beating two men before leaving Ormiston goalkeeper David Simmonds with no chance.

The visitors didn’t wait long to level, centre half Scott McKenzie scoring from six yards with a free header off a corner ball.

Berwick had two good chances to restore their lead. Ewan Saunderson swung over a cross but it arrived a foot too far from Keith Buckley. Carse fired a cracking shot which looked destined for the top corner of the net but Simmonds, at full stretch, managed to fingertip it away.

Apart from their opening goal, Ormiston made little headway in the air where Jonny Fairbairn ruled so it was no surprise that the winner came at ground level. The surprise was how it happened.

With the Ormiston defence under pressure, Graham Nisbet hoofed the ball downfield. Asher Tufail came to the edge of his box to meet it.

Instead of picking it up immediately, the unsuspecting keeper attempted to shepherd it back towards his goal. Scott Wright, following up, couldn’t believe his luck as he ran on to send the unsecured ball into the net to give his side all three points.
