Berwickshire could be about to get its very first ladies football team.

Eyemouth United Ladies are extending an open invitation to any women and girls aged over 16 years interested in playing football to come along to a training session next week.

The Ladies’ first session will be held at Eyemouth United Football Club’s Gunsgreen pitches on Wednesday, August 3, from 6pm to 7.30pm.

Eyemouth Ladies now have a Facebook page and anyone interested can get more information there or phone Siobhan Mclaughlin on 07704906331.

Siobahn has been behind the new venture and told the Berwickshire News: “I previously lived in Fife and played for East Fife Ladies. When I moved here I wanted to get back into football but the nearest ladies team was in Hawick so I thought of getting a new team together.

“We have had a lot of interest so far. It’s not just all about football but also the fun, fitness and social sides to it as well.”

Gemma Fletcher, manager of Hawick United Ladies Colts team has welcomed the setting up of another ladies team in the Borders.

She commented on the Eyemouth Ladies facebook page: “I started up a women’s team in Hawick at the beginning of last year and it’s great to see there’s more teams starting up as down this way we are in need of more women’s teams. Stick in guys because dreams do come true.”

Hawick United Ladies Colts are playing Lowick Ladies on Sunday, August 14, at Coldstream (kick-off time to be confirmed) sand Gemma has invited anyone interested in getting involved with the new Eyemouth Ladies team to come alomng a watch the ladies play.
