Eyemouth leave it late to nab all three points

Eyemouth United 3
Peebles Rovers 2

On Saturday Eyemouth welcomed Peebles to Warner park .

The playing conditions were perfect for a game of football and Eyemouth started off the better side forcing Peebles to defend.

Eyemouth strikers passed up a couple of golden opportunities to open the scoring, but the deadlock was finally broken after 20 minutes when Ross Patterson fired the ball across goal for Andrew sword to finish at the back post.

Five minutes later the Peebles keeper got injured and the break in play did Eyemouth no favours as they lost their way a bit and allowed Peebles to get back into the game.

Eyemouth were severely punished after some slack passing in the midfield.

The Peebles striker broke in from Eyemouth’s left and fired a shot which went under Adam Mutch in Eyemouth’s goal.

On the half-time whistle Peebles were reduced to 10 men when one of their strikers received a second yellow card for dissent.

The game went from bad to worse for Eyemouth when Peebles scored from a free kick just minutes into the
second half to put Peebles 2-1 up.

Eyemouth were finding it very hard to break Peebles down and the Peebles keeper pulled off a point-blank
save from a Connor Lough header.

With 20 minutes left to go the ball broke to Sean Campbell and from 25 yards out he turned and fired the ball into the roof of the net to make it 2-2.

Eyemouth’s winner came with eight minutes remaining when they were awarded a free-kick 30-35 yards from goal up stepped James Wilson (granddad of the team) and smashed the ball into the top corner of the goal, giving the goalkeeper absolutely no chance to make it 3-2 to Eyemouth – a fitting goal to win any game.

Graeme Patterson missed a header with minutes to go but Eyemouth held firm to take the three points.

Eyemouth’s next game is on Saturday, November 12 at home to Ormiston 2pm kick-off all welcome
