As the sides tested each other out the first real effort came after 16 minutes from Mark Weatherburn, whose 25 yard effort was tipped over in a great save from the Albert keeper.
Three minutes later Stevie Shennan had his own goal bound effort from the left just saved as the visiting keeper got a hand to it.
Hawick then had a couple of chances of their own, one of which was saved by Tansey, but with only five minutes remaining to the break Michael Robinson broke the deadlock for the home side.
In the second half Shennan blasted wide before he headed narrowly over.
Jordan Lauder doubled Duns’ advantage, heading home from a Shennan back header in the box.
Hawick continued to show some fight but they could not break down the home defence, their efforts being restricted to long range efforts, whilst Burns made one good covering tackle.
The game was then settled when Shennan took the ball in from the right, side- -stepping a defender and slotting the ball away for his 19th league goal of the campaign after 72 minutes.
With only 4 minutes remaing Robinson had to leave the field carrying a knock to be replaced by veteran Colin Gracey. In the final act of the match manager Hudson replaced trialist Jamie Pav with another veteran Alan Trickett.
Duns: Tansey, Burns, Weatherburn, Lauder, Ainslie, Chisholm, Wales, Stewart, Robinson (Gracey 86), Shennan, Pav (trialist Trickett 91).
