Devaney hat-trick as Dingers run riot against Peebles

PEEBLES ROVERS 0 DUNS 7: Once again the Duns squad was down to the bare bones for Saturday’s Borders derby match against Peebles.

With no less than 12 players unavailable through injury Duns were expecting a tough game and never expected to return home with full points following their biggest win of the season.

The venue for the game was switched late on Saturday morning to Selkirk’s Ettrick Park as the Peebles pitch was waterlogged.

Duns started very well and went in front with thanks to a Connor Devaney strike following a great pass from Chris Falconer.

Within a matter of minutes Steven Burns played Regan Graham through and he beat the keeper at the near post.

Devaney then got a quick fire double to complete his hat-trick. The first was a great shot into the far bottom corner then the next came from a perfect lob over the keeper to make the half-time score 4-0.

Michael Stewart scored on the hour with a fine solo run from the half way line and he doubled his tally with a goal of the season contender from 30 yards. His cracking shot came down off the bar onto the line and back up into the roof of the net. Steven Burns scored the seventh goal beating the keeper to a Gary Renton through ball and rolling ball into the bottom corner.

Peebles had two players sent off in the dying minutes and then their coach was sent from the touchline.
