HAWICK ROYAL ALBERT 7, BERWICK RANGERS RESERVES 3: Defender Elliot Grieve was sent off after just four minutes as Berwick crashed to a humiliating defeat at bottom of the table Hawick. Sam Young scored a hat-trick for the visitors, but defensive errors proved costly.

The game got off to a whirlwind start with five goals in the opening half hour. Hawick took the lead in the fourth minute when Kris O’Neil scored with a penalty after Grieve had handled on the goalline. The Berwick full-back was red carded.

Three minutes later Sam Young put Berwick on level terms by heading home a Callum Hill free kick. With 17 minutes gone Young netted again for Berwick to put the ten-man visitors in front.

Hawick came bouncing back though, Jay Paterek equalising in the 21st minute after being set up by O’Neil. Paterek put Hawick in front in the 29th minute and two minutes into the second half completed his hat-trick.

O’Neil then edged Hawick 4-2 ahead, but Berwick reduced the leeway when Young completed his hat-trick.

In the 84th minute O’Neil notched his third goal of the game and two minutes later Steven Drummond put Berwick into further arrears with a penalty.
