The first half ended goalless although Berwick had a goal ruled out for offside. Rangers had a clear edge in pace, the two best chances fell to the hosts. with Keith McLeod shooting wide whilst keeper Michael Andrews saved with his feet from Jack Beesley.
On the resumption, Spartans’ Willie Bremner missed a sitter, heading wide from two yards out.
Berwick’s second number nine, Jay Doyle, went on to score twice, in the 57th and 70th minutes. For his first, he chipped keeper Murray Jackson from the edge of the box, his second was a no nonsense strike . In between, he flicked the ball on for Andy Russell to lob Jackson for Berwick’s second goal.
The Lowland League champions were disappointed to see a 61st minute ‘goal’ by Donal Henretty chalked off for offside and were twice denied by impressive saves from second half custodian Billy Bald.
