Rangers say ‘bonjour’ to new French imports

Berwick have decided to add some va va voom to their squad with the introduction of five foreign imports, four of them from France.

Manager Colin Cameron has introduced the quintet - the other is from Switzerland - initially to play in Rangers’ U20 Development team (Reserves).

None of them will be allowed to play first team football in the SPFL until the next transfer window opens on January 1.

They are all currently based in Edinburgh where they are coached by Cameron.

Some of them made their debut for the Reserves in the 1-1 home draw against Forfar in the Development League last week.

The players are:

Jonas Burkhard, midfield/ forward (18) from Basel in Switzerland, who has been playing in Conneticut;

Anthony Monin, defender, (18) from Besagnon, France, who was with Vesoul Haute Saone Club;

Jak Khouiel, midfielder (19) from Biskra, Algeria, who was with Club AS Aixoise in France;

Matthieu Judor, midfielder (18), from Charenton Le Pont in France, who played for Melun in France;

and Loick Mangala, forward (17), from Ris-Orangis in France, who was with Club CS Bretigny.

The last French youngster to play for Berwick in 1997/8 was Franck Escalon, who joined the club as a free agent and then was transferred for a five figure sum by the club to Ross County.
