AFTER a frustrating 2011-12 season, Berwick’s Andy McLean is hoping for a more successful campaign when they kick off in a few weeks’ time.
McLean won virtually all the player of the year awards in 2010-11, but last season found himself watching from the sidelines as he was unable to command a regular place in Jimmy Crease’s starting line-up.
“It was a bit frustrating for me at times,” he said. “I either wasn’t playing early on or was playing out of position at fullback.
“I got back into the team towards the end of the season and I was enjoying it more then.
“This season I am hoping to try and make myself a regular in the team if I can.
“I would like to become a more regular fixture, but I know there will be competition for places, and that can only be a good thing.”
He added: “I think everyone was disappointed when we didn’t make the play-offs last season. We had a good squad of players, a lot of people were expecting us to do well, but for whatever reason it didn’t work out.
“We have kept the nucleus of that side and should be bringing in a few more new faces over the coming weeks and I’m really looking forward to it.”
