Manager hopes team can build on first away win of season

BERWICK manager Ian Little is hoping his side can kick on after picking up their first away win of the season at the weekend.
Rangers won 1-0 at Ochilview against East Stirling on Sunday, and with two home games coming up in the next week he is anxious the team can maintain their Shielfield form and make their presence felt at the top of the table.
“We’re just a point off third and the game against Montrose, who are above us in the table, is a big one for us,” he said.
“If we can win that one we will be right in there with the top sides.”
But Berwick must go into the match without the services of midfielder Stevie Notman, who was sent off for two bookable offences on Sunday and will miss the game through suspension.
“It was a harsh decision,” said Little, “and the loss of Stevie on the field will be a blow. But we have options with Damien Gielty and Neil Janczyk both able to step in.”
Little said he was pleased with the energy and commitment shown by the players against East Stirling, and after Notman was sent off he was delighted with the way his side responded when they had to revert to ‘Plan B.’
“If they go about their business in the same manner against Montrose on Saturday I will be more than happy,” he said.
Little admitted Berwick rode their luck slightly when East Stirling hit the post in the last minute and the ball bounced back into goalkeeper Ian McCaldon’s arms.
“I haven’t been one to bemoan our luck so far this season, but I accept we haven’t always had it,” he said. “I was just relieved when the ball fell kindly for ‘Eagle’ on this occasion.”
