Berwick Rangers defender Marc Lancaster could be set for a long spell on the sidelines if he opts to have surgery on a back problem that has seen him out of action since August.

The 19-year-old has managed only three games for the Shielfield Park club since joining them from Hibs after he was advised to rest his back.

Rest has not produced a significant improvement and surgery is now being considered.

Manager Ian Little said: ā€œIt is a shame for the kid as we had all hoped that he would be back playing by now.

ā€œA back operation would put him out for months but he may have to do it to have himself ready for next season if rest is not providing the way forward.ā€
