Lancaster could face surgery

Berwick Rangers defender Marc Lancaster could be set for a long spell on the sidelines if he opts to have surgery on a back problem that has seen him out of action since August.

The 19-year-old has managed only three games for the Shielfield Park club since joining them from Hibs after he was advised to rest his back.

Rest has not produced a significant improvement and surgery is now being considered.

Manager Ian Little said: “It is a shame for the kid as we had all hoped that he would be back playing by now.

“A back operation would put him out for months but he may have to do it to have himself ready for next season if rest is not providing the way forward.”
