Lee Currie has rejected the offer of a contract with Berwick and has signed for Newtongrange Star.

Currie, who is 25, played almost 150 games for Rangers and was a regular in the side over the past four seasons after joining the Borderers in July 2011. He was also a former captain and scored 40 goals in all competitions from midfield.

Last summer, after a highly successful 2013-14 season, when he landed several ‘Player of the Year’ awards, he held out for a move to another club with the hope of a full time contract. He had a trial with Hearts, but the Tynecastle club decided not to take the matter further and he eventually agreed to a new deal to stay on at Shielfield.

Currie, who is a former Hibernian player, had been offered the chance to stay on at Shielfield, but opted instead to join the Junior outfit.
