Berwick Rangers have now confirmed the signing of central defender Dougie Brydon for the 2013-14 season.
The Duns-based centre-back was one of several players offered a contract at the end of last season, and sources had indicated that it was ‘a formality’ that he was going to agree terms and stay on for a second year.
In his debut season Brydon, who is 25, won some rave reviews for his performances and during the course of the campaign he was linked with several clubs, including English Premier League sides Stoke City and Sunderland and Leeds United from the Championship.
Brydon, who suffered a groin injury which sidelined him for the final weeks of 2012-13, is now understood to be fully recovered and he is likely to form a regular defensive partnership with new signing Stephen Tulloch, who joined the club last week from Forfar.
Meanwhile, Berwick have confirmed another pre-season friendly - they will take on Northern League side Ashington at Woodhorn Lane on Saturday, July 6.
The last time Berwick were in action at Ashington it was at the old Portland Park ground (now Asda) with a 1-1 draw in July 2006. The Colliers ended last season on a high winning all three of their final games scoring 12 goals. The match is subject to formal Scottish and English FA final approval.
Berwick will also face Craigroyston and Musselburgh Juniors away in two mid-week fixtures, and Oxford United at Shielfield on Saturday, July 13.
They are also currently trying to arrange another home game for Saturday 20.
Berwick Reserves are now looking to recruit players for the new season.
