Three second-half goals saw Berwick take all three points from their ‘must win’ home game against Clyde at Shielfield.

After two defeats and a draw against the Bully Wee so far this season, Berwick were looking for their first victory of the year over the visitors.

After a goalless first half Darren Lavery opened the scoring with a volley after 56 minutes, before skipper Lee Currie added another two for what was eventually a comfortable victory.

Clyde made the brighter start and in the second minute a Neil Janczyk free kick was headed inches wide by Ryan Frances. Minutes later a cross from the left was misjudged by keeper Billy Bald, causing some consternation in the home defence.

The Rangers’ defence also had to be on their toes when they made two block challenges as Clyde continued to set the pace.

Jonny Fairbairn headed over for Berwick from one of the corners they forced, but in the opening half hour visiting goalkeeper Jamie Barclay had little to do.

His first save came after Darren Lavery jinked his way past two defenders, but his low shot lacked any conviction.

John Sweeney caused some problems for the Berwick back four with a series of long throws, and right on the half-time whistle Andy Russell saw a shot from the edge of the box deflected onto the roof of the Clyde net.

The deadlock was finally broken by Lavery after 57 minutes with a sweet left foot volley from the edge of the box after a Lee Currie corner on the right was knocked into his path and his first time strike sailed past Barclay for his 17th goal of the season.

And Currie doubled the advantage after 76 minutes with a low shot past Barclay after taking a throw-in on the right from Devon Jacobs.

Just two minutes later Clyde had the ball in the net but the effort was ruled out for offside.

The game was then made safe when Currie added his 15th of the season with a well-taken free kick from 23 yards out.

Later in the game Bald made a good save with his feet as Clyde tried to save some face.
