SUPERSUB Bruce Chisholm rifled in a goal 15 minutes from time to give Duns a hard earned three points in this Borders derby at Yarrow Park on Saturday.

Selkirk’s hopes of victory disappeared in a red mist as their striker Jamie Gibson was sent off late on for a comment to referee Paul Hanlon, who proved an unpopular figure throughout the afternoon.

The Dingers got off to the perfect start when after just 19 minutes Gary Waddell’s cross was converted by former Aberdeen under 19s midfielder Conor Devaney for his eighth goal in 12 games.

But Selkirk struck back just two minutes later as Gibson’s low free kick beat Duns stopper Scott Lumsden.

However, the former Coventry City trialist proved much more difficult to beat for Jonny Watt, Aaron Butters and Andy Noble who were all denied before half time by Lumsden.

It was more of the same at the start of the second period as Michael Holness’ effort was kept out by Lumsden.

At the other end, Selkirk goalkeeper John Dodds had to look lively to save a Devaney free kick before the hosts’ appeals for a penalty midway through the half, when Daryl Johnson when down under a challenge from Darren Leslie, were waved away by whistler Hanlon.

Duns substitute Bruce Chisholm was immediately into the action with a shot which flew just wide.

The former Coldstream and Greenlaw frontman was more accurate 15 minutes from time as he beat Jamie Higginbottom to place a shot past keeper Dodds.

Selkirk immediately introduced Jason Inglis for his long awaited comeback from a knee injury but it was Lumsden who preserved his side’s lead with saves from forwards Gibson and Watt.

And Selkirk’s frustration boiled over in the final minute with Gibson’s sending off, his second of the season.

Duns: Lumsden, Weatherburn, G. Renton, Stewart, Leslie, Douglas, Devaney, Ainslie, Brydon, Lauder, Waddell. Subs - B. Chisholm, Graham, Bouchier, A. Renton.
