A LATE Eddie Mearns penalty salvaged a draw for Tynecastle after ten-man Coldstream fought back from 3-2 down to take the lead, prolific striker John Crawford scoring all four goals for the home side in an eight-goal thriller at Home Park.

The result gave Coldstream their first point on Group D of the Qualifying League, but left Lawrie Dunn’s men facing an uphill task in their bid to finish in the top two and earn a place in the League Cup quarter-final.

Dunn’s men can take heart from the way they fought back against a Premier Division side to earn a point with ten men after young midfielder Michael Allan was sent off midway though the second half for swearing at the referee in what was also a clear breach of the club’s new ‘no swearing’ policy, adopted this season in response to local residents who have been complaining.

Josh Morris put the visitors ahead in the first minute and monopolised possession, but Coldstream showed character to bounce back, Crawford grabbing the equaliser.

The striker then headed Streamers in front on the half hour, powering home a Martin Tait corner from the left.

Despite a good save from Streamers goalkeeper Scott Bruce, Tynecastle’s Robbie Arthur fired home the rebound from 12 yards to make it 2-2 and former Streamers striker James Guy cashed in on Dunn’s short headed pass-back to give the visitors a half-time lead. Bruce had saved Guy’s first effort, but the striker prodded home the rebound.

After Allan’s sending off, Coldstream refused to lie down and Crawford earned himself a penalty which he converted himself to make it 3-3.

A superb run and cross from Robbie Armstrong on the right then gave Crawford the chance to grab his fourth and put the home side in front. He made no mistake with the diving header from inside the six-yard box.

Tynecastle began to make their one-man advantage count, however, and with just three minutes left a trip by Dunn right on the line gave the visitors a penalty.

Mearns, who was one of the most impressive players on show, made no mistake to equalise from the spot.
