BERWICK Supporters’ Club are set to admit their first inductees into their newly launched hall of fame.

The Taylor family who introduced the sport to Tweedside in 1967, and former captains Rob Grant and Alan Mogridge will be the first bestowed with the honour.

The awards will be made at a special dinner which is being held in the Black and Gold at Shielfield tonight.

Danny and Elizabeth, who are both deceased, will be represented by Kenny and Alan Taylor. Kenny went on to become promoter in his own right following his father’s death just a year after the club was formed).

A spokesman for the supporters’ club said it would have been inconceivable to have launched the Hall of Fame without including the Taylor family in it.

Had it not been for them the club would probably never have existed, so everyone who follows the fortunes of the Bandits owes them a debt of gratitude.

Grant, who spent 11 years with the team was one of the most charismatic figures in the club’s 40-plus years history. He was the recipient of a testimonial, and is still a regular visitor to meetings at Shielfield.

‘Moggo’ meanwhile, is regarded as one of the club’s modern-day legends for his performances with the Bandits. His style of riding, particularly around Shielfield, won him many admirers

Organisers say that the event will be followed with the installation of further inductees in the future.
