Bellego a Berwick asset

DAVID Bellego has been confirmed as a Berwick asset.

The French teenager, who rode on loan at Shielfield last season, had been the subject of a tug-o-war between the Bandits and Glasgow, where he rode at the end of the 2011 campaign.

At the time both clubs claimed he either belonged to them, or would go on to become their asset.

The situation was unresolved before Matrch and the BSPA took the stance that no decision would be made until the end of the year.

At last week’s AGM it was confirmed Bellego would indeed become a Berwick asset.

Club co-promoter Dennis McCleary said: “We are more than happy with the decision and thank the BSPA members for taking on board our views and can now add David to our Berwick rider asset base with immediate effect.”

Bellego, who enjoyed a successful end to the season, picked up the award as ‘Bonus Point King’ at the team’s end of season presentation, when he admitted that if the opportunity arises he would like to return to Shielfield in 2013.

Berwick gave their declaration of intent to run at the conference, but have stressed that they are still looking for an injection of funds to ensure their participation in the 2013 season and prospective sponsors are urged to contact the club as soon as possible to secure a racing future.
