Battling Ben finds Welsh course is no Sweet Lamb

The Motocross scene in the Borders is brimming with talented riders, none more so than 13-year-old Ben Thompson, from Hume near Kelso.

Last month, Ben and his family travelled to Sweet Lamb in Wales for the first round of the Fast Eddy’s Great British Cross Country Championship.

Sweet Lamb is nationally renowned for its rally test complex and now boasts a fantastic enduro course.

With a combination of terrain such as moorland, rocky gullies, steep inclines and descents, the course is a test for any rider.

Ben was the only Scot racing in the event – a dead engine start alongside 120 riders put into classes ranging from youth to adult pro expert. In the 14-16 class Ben had a poor start, but fought back strongly to gain a very impressive fourth in his age category and 63rd overall, a great result for his first GBXC race.

Ben’s results would not be possible without the support from his family and his sponsors – his race kit for the season is sponsored by Moose Racing Clothing.

He will be back on the road, travelling to South Devon for round two later this month.
