Berwick’s Ricky Ashworth is set to make an international appearance tonight (Thursday), less than a fortnight after making a comeback from a lengthy injury.
Ashworth, who spent almost three months out after suffering from dizzy spells and concussion, will ride for Team GB in an international challenge against Australia at Sheffield’s Owlerton Stadium.
And riding in the opposition ranks will be his Bandits’ partner and captain, Kozza Smith.
Sheffield is a track Ashworth knows particularly well as the Salford-based rider spent ten years with the Yorkshire club before moving to Berwick on loan at the start of the 2012 season.
Ashworth was sidelined after being involved in two heavy crashes at the start of the season when he suffered knocks to the head.
He was only recently given the all-clear to return to racing and made his comeback for the Bandits in the recent home defeat against Redcar.
He also rode in the Fours Finals at Peterborough and then picked up a guest booking for Somerset at Workington on Saturday when he scored nine points for the Rebels in a narrow one point defeat against the Comets.
Smith is also making his comeback this season after a year out with a broken thigh.
