BERWICK’s Swedish star Sebastian Alden was the club’s representative at the Premier League Riders’ Championship at Sheffield on Sunday.
And the Bandit put up a good performance, getting off to a very good start by winning his first two races.
He then achieved two second places, putting him well up the leader-board on ten points.
He knew that if he managed to get amnongst the points in his last outing a final place as one of the top two qualifiers was within his grasp.
But disaster struck when the tapes when up and his bike failed to get off the start line.
As a top six finisher in the heats Alden made the semi-final run-off, where again, the top two qualified for the final along with leading qualifiers Sam Masters (Somerset) and Ricky Ashworth (Sheffield).
Unfortunately, Alden made a poor gate, and despite pulling off a rare passing move on Newport’s Jason Doyle, he was unable to catch either Ben Barker (Plymouth) or Kauko Nieminen (Leicester) who qualified for the final.
The final was won by Masters, who won his first PLRC, beating defending champion Ashworth into second place with Nieminen third and Barker fourth.
