Peebles youngster Alex Diggins is leading the way for young entrepreneurs in the Borders.

In February the thirteen year old launched his fist enterprises which has already proven to be a great success - a crepe stall at the Peebles Local Food Market. This was achieved with the support of The Leaven Deli on School Brae, a social enterprise that focuses on helping young people from the community build their confidence, become ready for work and learn about food production, sales and enterprise.

Alex volunteered at The Leaven Deli for nine months before independently writing up own his business plan and pitching it to the project managers, convincing them to invest in him and his idea.

The Leaven Deli on School Brae is a social enterprise which is part of the Peebles Community Action Network (Peebles CAN) - a community group who deliver a number of engaging projects that aim to promote a socially inclusive resilient community able to combat climate change and youth unemployment while helping local businesses to thrive.

The Peebles Local Food Market runs every Saturday and regularly features representatives from many of the towns finest businesses who are eager to promote their delicious fresh foods and has become a popular place for locals to pick up fresh delicacies.
