Weather hasn’t helped the hedgehogs

This week we shall be moving everything around to get ready for the Open Day on Saturday, May 28.

We were hoping for nice weather but it looks like it may be wet according to the long range forecast so we will get what we can under cover. We should by then only have four hedgehogs left in our care. This time of year we usually don’t have any but this erratic spring weather has not helped them. I think that people are more aware of hedgehogs and know that if they are out during the day they are in trouble, thankfully they are brought in to us in instead of just being left.

We have had several hogs in with pneumonia that were too sick to survive, others seem to have lost too much weight during their hibernation and need a little help.

Our three Mallard ducklings are getting their little tweed jackets now and this week I think they will be moving to the big pond to have more water and meeting the swans that they are going to have to get along with when they go to the river.

One of the swans that was caught in a hedge after being chased by an aggressive cob is now using the pond. The bird was in a bit of a mess when it arrived one of its wings not at the right angle at all. Its legs are still very sore. There are no fractures and the bird is having daily painkiller treatment but it will take time. When it is on the water it must be easier and less painful.

Come and see us on Saturday from 10.30am-2pm.
