Dancers from the Scottish Ballet visited Berwick schools this week to give workshops on the choreography of Kenneth Macmillan’s Elite Syncopations.
Catherine Cassidy and Owen Thorne completed the day of teaching by putting dancers at the Jane Keenan School of Dance through their paces before having fun with the witty choreography to 1920s Scott Jobplin style music. Owen taught the dancers how to flirt, dance and vie with each other for the limelight as he does on stage in this uplifting ballet from one of the most innovative choreographers of the 20th century.
Scottish Ballet were in Berwick as part of their ‘Up Front’ tour which included two performances at Berwick’s Maltings Theatre. The first half was a selection of six short pieces, some of which was created for the company. The second half was given over to Kenneth Macmillan’s ‘Elite Syncopations’ - the workshop students and the rest of the audiences getting to see how it should be done!
