The leader of a north Northumberland charity group “nearly fell out of her chair” in amazement after receiving a surprise £30,000 cheque.
The donation was made by executors of a will to the Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research North Northumberland fundraising group.
It equates to more than two years’ worth of fundraising.
Berwick’s Helen Tait, who leads the group, announced receipt of the cheque before Sunday’s annual fundraising walk around Holy Island.
She explained: “I received the cheque about six weeks ago and nearly fell of my chair.
“We’ve been going now for five years and raised £60,000, but that cheque has taken us to £90,000. £30,000 is about two and a half years’ worth of fund-raising, so it is a fantastic boost.”
