A Heart for Duns has been successful in reaching the final stages of the People’s Millions competition run by ITV.
A 90 second pitch from Duns was filmed yesterday (Wednesday) and this will be broadcast at the end of the ITV Border news bulletin on November 26.
Heart of Duns have applied for funding to replace the vastly outdated staging, lighting and sound equipment in the hall and for cinema equipment which will provide a hugely improved experience for those who put on theatrical performances and for those who attend the many excellent shows/plays produced by talented local groups.
These groups involve many youngsters and in an area of rural deprivation, this outlet for energy and the opportunity for creativity is much needed.
Improved facilities would perhaps encourage touring companies to include Duns in their itineraries so all of Duns could benefit.
The public will have the chance to vote for the project on Wednesday, November 26 - and only on that day. You can make 10 calls from the same phone - ie 10 from your mobile and 10 from your landline! The number will not be made public until 5am on Wednesday, November 26, so look out for it.
The Duns project will be competing against a Peebles project in the bid to win the £50,000 first prize so the more votes Duns can get the better.
Dawn Austwick, Big Lottery Fund chief executive, said: “The People’s Millions competition is a brilliant opportunity for people to have a say in how Lottery money is spent in their communities. Voters will have some difficult choices to make in deciding which of the excellent projects will get their support.”
