Local MSP John Lamont has welcomed a statement from ITV pledging to provide full and in-depth coverage of the debate on whether Scotland should separate from the rest of the UK.

Concerns had been raised over whether Borders TV viewers would receive enough information in the lead up to the referendum in September next year.

However, no matter what the outcome of the consultation on the future of ITV coverage in the Borders, ITV have pledged to show ‘extensive’ coverage of the debate.

John Lamont commented: “The referendum on whether or not we should separate from the rest of the UK will be the most important decision that Scots have made in 300 years. As such it is vital that voters are given the information they need to make an informed decision.”
