Unit appeal reaches the half million

Half a million raised, and half a million still to go - that is the message from the fundraising team for The Margaret Kerr Unit as the public appeal to raise the final million pounds reaches £500,000.

Accepting a cheque for £123.49 from Eleanor Spiteri, Early Education Lecturer at Borders College on behalf of the Child, Health and Care Level 2 students, appeal chairman James Marjoribanks expressed his delight.

“Borders College have been great supporters of The Margaret Kerr Unit Appeal as well as previous fundraising appeals that ‘the difference’ have run, so we are delighted that it is this donation raised from a cake and candy stall and a sponsored walk that actually took the students past the construction site of The Margaret Kerr Unit, which takes us over the half million pounds mark.”

“The generosity of people across the Borders continues to amaze us on a daily basis as we see the donations to the appeal coming in, and I would like to thank, once again, each and every one of you who has contributed to this very special project.”

Fundraising manager Clare Oliver added: “We are now in the home straight, and are counting down every single pound and penny that will take us to the million pound target. Our goal is to raise the rest of the money by the end of 2012, ready to welcome patients to The Margaret Kerr Unit early next year.”
