Seafarers have been warned to take precautions after Dunbar’s lifeboat was called out twice in three days to help yachts in mechanical trouble.

Dunbar’s inshore lifeboat launched at 4pm on Sunday to tow a vessel with gearbox problems back to harbour.

On Friday, the crew went to the aide of a yacht stranded without power when its engine failed five miles east of Bass Rock at 12.15pm.

Coxswain Gary Fairbairn said: “It’s important everyone makes sure their boat is in good working order and that they are properly equipped for their journey.”
