The winters don’t come much tougher than in north Northumberland and the Borders and as the staff at BEN’s Birch Hill Residential Care Centre in Norham know only too well, getting about in heavy snow can be a real problem.

Toyota GB’s head of CSR and Environmental Affairs, Thomas Rosselle heard about this and has come up with the perfect solution; a top of the range Rav4 which Toyota has kindly supplied on a complimentary, long-term loan.

BEN’s chief executive, David Main said: “When the weather closes in on this neck of the woods, it really closes in and the surrounding country roads can become almost impassable.

“In the past, we have had to beg or borrow alternative transport wherever we could from local dealers, who have always responded magnificently. However, Toyota’s generosity in providing us with this superb four-wheel-drive vehicle means that we will now never again have to worry about getting staff in and out, keeping our residents mobile if they need to get to appointments, etc and generally keeping Birch Hill moving.”

Thomas travelled to Birch Hill to hand over the vehicle and took the opportunity to see for himself some of the work that BEN does and joined the residents for a Christmas lunch.

He said: “The day was a demonstration of the importance and the quality of the service provided by BEN and its passionate workforce.

“It was a pleasure to spend the day with them and their residents and we are delighted that Toyota has opted to help in this way.”
