A pool of volunteers to share Thirlestane Castle’s history with visitors to the Lauder stately home is currently being recruited.

Dating back to the 16th century, Thirlestane Castle has played a key role in Scottish history and is now a popular visitor attraction and events venue in the Borders.

With more visitors expected this year, the castle needs to increase its pool of volunteers to make sure people have the best experience at this captivating attraction.

The Friends of Thirlestane Castle, help inform visitors of the history of the castle and the Maitland family, who have lived here since 1590. These room stewards are the face of Thirlestane Castle and play an important part in welcoming visitors and making their visit memorable and informative. No experience is necessary, just an enthusiasm for sharing the fascinating story of this historic building and the unique collections on display.
