Swinton Horticultural Society held their 126th flower show at Whitsome Ark on Saturday, September 27, entries were down slightly in some sections but a good show of exhibits in the hall again this year. In the flower section trophy winners included Jean Wood, Wendy Kinghorn, Alex Swanston, Alex Watson, Bill Sowman and Alistair Common. Wendy Kinghorn won the best exhibit in the fruit section. Most points and best exhibit in the vegetables - John Pigg; most points in the potato section - Alex Watson; under 16 novice in the flowers and vegetables - Emma Gaston.
In the industrial section most points overall was won by Maureen Cranston and confined to Swinton Parish was won by Moria Matthewson. Linda Thomson won Most points baking & preserves - Linda Thomson; most points handicrafts - Katy Telford. Helen Stuart won most points in the floral section and a new exhibitor Joanna Payne won the photography section. Children’s sections best exhibit - Jamie Morton who also won age 6-8 years section; 5 & under - Jess Cowe; 9-12yrs - Harley Evans; 16 & under novice industrial - Katanna Evans; handwriting trophy - Kyle Taylor.
