The ‘Concert for Spring’ at Christchurch, Duns, in the evening of Wednesday, March 16, certainly had the audience tapping their feet.
The Brass-on-Tweed ensemble showed off their repertoire from classical military marches to modern, light hearted compositions portraying the scenes and characters in a circus.
The One A’chord Ladies Barbershop Choir brought the audience a lively selection of songs rendered in the typical close harmony that characterises barbershop music. Apart from the quality of the singing, which was outstanding as well as energetic, what was most striking was that these ladies were enjoying themselves.
Their young choirmaster, Nick Drew, who travels down from Edinburgh every Wednesday evening for choir practices at Newtown St. Boswells Community Centre, issued an invitation to all ladies join the choir.
Only two essentials - you are female and you can hold a tune; ability to read music advantageous but not essential.
Music and singing gladden the heart and both participants and the audience left with a spring in their step.
