Berwickshire SNP has announced Joan Campbell as their candidate for the East Berwickshire ward in May’s Scottish Borders Council elections.
Joan, who lives in Chirnside, said: “I’m honoured to be selected as the SNP candidate for East Berwickshire. I grew up here, attending Cockburnspath Primary and Eyemouth High Schools although my school contemporaries will remember me as Joan Umpherston. Since then, I have worked in the NHS, graduated MA(Hons) from Glasgow University, for 26 years was a self employed partner in a light engineering company, and finally worked with an international electronics company. I am currently the chairperson of Heathgrange Residents’ Association in Chirnside.
“If elected I intend to put my varied experience to good use working for more investment and infrastructure improvements in East Berwickshire. Increasing local jobs will be my top priority. I want to ensure that young people in particular don’t have to leave the area to work as I had to many years ago.”
Councillor Donald Moffat said: “I’m delighted Joan is standing in East Berwickshire and I look forward to welcoming her as part of our SNP team in May.
