The search for 66-year-old Eyemouth fisherman John Young, who has been missing since before Christmas, was finally called off on New Year’s Eve.

Mr Young was last seen leaving The Fleet pub in Eyemouth at around 6.30pm on Friday, December 19, and was thought to be heading towards the harbour area.

On Wednesday, December 31, 2014, the following report was pasted on Eyemouth Lifeboat’s Facebook page: “We are sad to report that today brought to an end the extensive multi agency search that has been ongoing since December 20th, following information that a local fisherman had been reported missing and was last seen in the harbour area of Eyemouth.

“Since then, Eyemouth lifeboat and its crew, as well as local coastguards, have been carrying out searches of Eyemouth harbour and its immediate coastline for the fisherman, who was well known to all of the lifeboat crew.

“Both lifeboats also stood by and acted as safety boats to the police dive team who have carried out intensive searches of the harbour over a period of nine days.

“Unfortunately, the fisherman is still reported as missing. Should anyone have any information which can assist police with their investigation, then we would be grateful if you could contact them by dialling 101.

“Everyone at Eyemouth lifeboat would like to extend their thoughts and prayers to the family involved.”
