Scottish Borders Council has employed 28 modern apprentices during the last financial year, offering young people aged 16-24 an opportunity to gain both industry approved qualifications and invaluable work experience.

The news comes ahead of Scottish Apprenticeship Week (May 18 to 23), which the council is supporting.

Councillor Frances Renton, SBC’s executive member for social work and housing said: “SBC is committed to helping reduce unemployment for young people in the Borders and the news and I am confident that the modern apprenticeship scheme at SBC will go from strength to strength and I hope to see an increasing number of opportunities becoming available.”

Apprenticeship opportunities are advertised on the Council website: www.scotborders.gov.uk/jobs
