Restaurants face calls to take grouse off menu

The League Against Cruel Sports has asked top restaurants not to serve grouse, objecting to the promotion of grouse shooting as a natural and sustainable way of providing food for the table.

Director Tom Quinn said: “The collateral damage caused by getting a grouse to the table leaves a nasty taste in the mouth.

“Restaurants have started to pay attention to sustainability when it comes to the fish they serve. But there are massive problems with by-catch when it comes to grouse. We hope that when they realise this, restaurants will refuse to serve grouse after August 12th.”

Countryside Alliance director of campaigns Tim Bonner said: “Not only is grouse shooting sustainable but it is absolutely crucial for the future of our heather moorland, for some endangered ground-nesting birds and for rural communities.”
