RADIO 4’s Gardeners’ Question Time came to Crookham United Reformed Church recently following an invite from Crookham Gardeners’ Club.
Among the panellists were Christine Walkden, a familiar face on The One Show, and Cragside head gardener Alison Pringle. The show was chaired by well known broadcaster Eric Robson.
The programme was broadcast on Friday and Saturday of last weekend.
The programme can still be heard on BBC iPlayer/Listen Again until the end of this week.
With the programme was a good opportunity to ask a question of the panel regarding appropriate plants for the planned peace garden around the church building to mark the 500th anniversary commemorations of the Battle of Flodden in 2013.
The panel’s suggestions included: Peace Lily, Pulsatilla vulgaris, Friendship plant or Billbergia nutans, Handkerchief tree or Davidia involucrate, Hydrangea ‘Love me kiss, Hairbells, and Scottish bluebells.
The broadcast is the church’s springboard for Easter worship 3pm Easter Sunday.
The church grounds are awaiting their own transformation later this year so the Easter Egg hunt planned as part of our Easter celebration will take place in a neighbouring beautiful garden.
The service will focus on spring growth and transformation - both horticultural and spiritual, as Revd Dave Herbert leads worship joined by the singing of The Crookham Cuckoo choir.
