plans for this year’s Eyemouth Herring Queen festival are well underway and Herring Queen elect Rachel Lauder is preparing for her big day.
The traditional crowning ceremony will be take place on Saturday, July 16, at 4pm at Gunsgreen basin, when 2010 Herring Queen, Cheryl Forman will crown her successor, Rachel.
Admission will be by silver donation, with free attractions such as a disco, the Podlies, birds of prey, a stilt walker, a Punch and Judy Show and balloon scuplture.
There will be a charge for those wanting to take part in the side-shows, face painting and caricaturist.
There will be a break with tradition after Saturday’s celebration - prompted by the fact that for the past two years the festival has had to contend with bad weather.
After much discussion the organising committee have decided that they aren’t going to take any more chances with the weather and as a result there will be no stalls, music or other entertainment at the exposed Gunsgreen site on the Sunday, July 17.
Instead they have planned a smaller event in the Home Arms car park and details of it are available from the souvenir programme which will go on sale at the end of May.
There will be daily events held throughout Herring Queen Week and the committee hope that everyone will make the most of them and support the town’s festival as well as they have in previous years.
