Priory work

Snow and ice prevented improvements at Coldingham Priory being finished by Christmas but work has now started again.

Five new information boards have been installed, Victorian metal markers have been replicated and Coldingham school children helped write the inscriptions on the threshold stones laid near the ruins.

The next stage is the excavation of the car park area in front of the church gate, bookshop and new post office/Luckenbooth and the laying of ducting, drainage, gully and filter drain. This will be followed by the construction of a stone flagged area to give a common frontage here. Finally, new church gates will be fitted.

Unfortunately there will be some inconvenience with access through the churchyard in the next two weeks. The car park entrance will not be in use; access to church and graveyard will be via the Bow and Chariot Road entrances. Access to the post office and public toilets will be maintained.
