Police seek lay advisers and visitors

LOTHIAN and Borders Police Board is looking for volunteers for its two voluntary schemes - custody visitors and lay diversity advisers.

Custody visitors are independent members of the local community who visit police stations unannounced to observe, monitor and report on the welfare of people held in custody.

Lay diversity advisers are independent members of the community who monitor and scrutinise police investigations of hate crime and influence police strategy and operations in relation to diversity and equality.

The closing date for applications is Wednesday, February 15, 2012 and application packs can be downloaded from the Police Board website.
