Police issue further fuel warning

FURTHER thefts have prompted Lothian and Borders Police to once again encourage Borders residents and businesses to lock up their fuel tanks.

Last week we reported that 400 litres of kerosene had been stolen from Grantshouse between January 7 and February 9 while 100 litres of red diesel was stolen from a yard in Duns Industrial Estate between January 28 and February 7.

The spate of thefts also saw thieves target Newmill on Teviot, Town Yetholm, Kirk Yetholm and Newcastleton and police have now confirmed a further theft - 1000 litres of heating oil was taken from a tank that was secured with a padlock at Text House, Denholm.

The theft was discovered on February 20 and police are again reiterating the need for the public to remain vigilant and to report anything suspicious to the them at the time of the incident.
