A Duns business woman is celebrating after winning the top prize in a national competition.
Sally-Anne Peek won first prize in the inaugural Scottish NMT Nursery Awards Competition, the final of which was held recently at the Hilton Hotel in Glasgow.
The purpose of the Awards was to recognise and reward the very best people in nursery childcare in Scotland.
Sally-Anne’s nursery, which is based in Barnton, Edinburgh, and is aptly named ‘Peek-A-Boo’ beat stiff competition to win the ‘Best Individual Nursery’ category.
In the view of the judges, Peek-A-Boo Nursery “created the very best environment to allow for the highest levels of business performance, childcare and staff morale, to flourish”. The judges particularly liked the active involvement of parents and they praised the childrens’ ability to drive their own learning; both key factors in the Peek-A-Boo philosophy.
The daughter of Ian and Joyce Peek from Duns, Sally-Anne attended both Duns Primary School and Berwickshire High School before qualifying from University Of Glasgow with B.Ed and P.G.C.E.C.E degrees in 1988 and 2002. However, it was her ambition to open her own nursery, and in 1998 with help from Joyce and Ian, Peek-a-Boo Nursery opened its door for the first time.
Under Sally-Anne’s expert leadership the nursery has grown and developed, and now has places for 70 children.
Her talent for providing fabulous nursery education is evident everywhere you look and both the Care Inspectorate and Her Majesty Inspectorate agree, awarding Peek-a Boo Nursery an ‘Excellent’ rating.
Having received this latest accolade, Sally-Anne said: “The first thing I did was ring my parents in Duns and share the fantastic news! I am so grateful to all those people who believed in my dream and helped me make it a reality. Winning the top Individual Nursery in Scotland Award is a huge achievement and I am incredibly proud.”
